objects with value

Some things have real value – do you ever look at random objects and just know intuitively that they are valuable, or priceless, or worthless?  Here are a few random objects, selected randomly….

Decide whether you think these items are worth anything….

First is the new milk now being sold in Sams Clubs.  The milk is the same as always (from cows, white or bluish white if you go for skim) but hte package is different.  The cartons stack easier, save lots of space, are more efficient, and have all kinds of logistical benefits, which saves energy and money.  Very cool.  But the thing is, people dont know how to pour milk out of these things, so Sams has to do demonstrations to show people how to properly pour.  Very confusing.  So is this a great item that is helping our planet a little?  or is it a dumb idea because people dont know how to use it?

The next item is a coffee mug, obviously homemade.  I clicked this photo of a mug on a co-worker’s desk.  For all of the cool, gifted, decorated, logo’d, freebie coffee mugs in the world (or at least in our kitchen’s cabinets), he had to bring this one in from home.  Just like the freebie mugs, this one was free, too.  But I think the value is probably much higher!

And finally, a great object I spotted recently in a grocery store – - liter bottles of FortiFido… that’d be flavored water for your dog… for a buck fifty.  Now, come on.  How can this be?  What has the world come to?  But think again- some people really really love their pets and treat them like humans (anthropomorphosism, anyone?).  So, who am I to judge?

So, what we have here are: 1) milk jugs that are highly functional and efficient but hard to use, 2) priceless objects of (he)art, and 3) ridiculous products that serve no real need and dont mean a thing to the end user.
