KISS with a TWIST

img_0380 Sometimes the simplest ideas catch my eye. I was out with my daughter shopping for stuff for her dorm room, and I saw this clever device. It’s a bottle stopper and a candle holder all in one. What a really simple idea, and insightful.

On these warm summer nights, it’s nice to sit outside and have a glass of wine, and burn a candle to keep the bugs away.

I also saw another clever, simple device in the same vein at Sams Club – - it was a light that mounts under your outdoor umbrella, so you can dine al fresco with illumination.

I continue to be fascinated by the simple, everyday ingenuity of folks out there. There are so many great ideas….

In REI, I was shopping for some flip flops and came across the Reef brand — they’re the ones who put the bottle opener on the bottom of their flip flops, for emergency hydration needs I guess.

These examples follow the KISS principle – Keep It Simple, Smartypants.

And also the TWIST principle – the Transformation Will Increase Sales Technique … or, smash to ideas together to make a better one.

I will always remember working on a dog food idea that would carry non-digestible grass seed in it; the grass seed would germinate ‘later’. Loved that idea!

There’s a great brainstorming technique here: take you brand and a random list of other products and try to smash them together and see what you might end up with.

Anyway, keep your eyes open for the great ideas staring you in the face. And remember, KISS and TWIST!

What have you seen out there? Anything clever, novel, unique, insightful, simple, fun???
