how do you survive the recession?
Yesterday at the annual Promotional Marketers Association conference, a very fun facilitator group called On Your Feet led the 250 attendees in a warm-up exercise – - each person in the audience wrote down what he/she is doing to survive in the recession. Then, each person talked to another person at random and they picked ‘the better idea’ of the two. Then that pair talked to another pair and picked the better idea. Then those four people talked to another group and picked the better idea. You get the picture – almost instant ranking and group winnowing process. It went very fast, great ice breaker, and caused the best ideas to rise to the top.
The final groups offered these suggestions as to how to survive the recession:
- have faith
- network
- leverage your assets
- dont cut your marketing budget
- practice practical inovation
- add value
- be a team player
- have a positive attitude
- sell
- differentiate
- have a clear value proposition
- listen
- get others to buy your drinks for you
Now, these are all somewhat platitude-inous for sure. But, they’re also good advice anytime, not just in recessionary times.
Nice job to the whole group!
